Dear friends and colleagues

The Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences at Cochin warmly welcomes you the first Amrita Annual Pathology Update 2017, AAPUD. The Amrita Hospital is a 1300 bedded tertiary referral care hospital, envisioned by our founder, Sri Mata Amritananadamayi Devi (fondly known as AMMA) with the vision to deliver advanced medical care in an atmosphere of love and compassion. The institution has today over 25 specialty and super specialty departments serving patients from all walks of life with special charity programmes to serve the needy.

The department of Pathology is a clinical department that stands committed on three contributing pillars of academics, diagnostic service and research. The department came into being in 2002 with the commencement of the medical college. The department conducts teaching for at least eight different courses in the medical and science streams. Knowledge, skill and aptitude development is the focus of all our endaevours. The department has a well-equipped diagnostic laboratory infrastructure with good workload in histopathology, cytology and hematology services. The department is making inroads to inculcate the molecular diagnostics and “theranostics” into its diagnostic armoury in order to serve patients better.

It was imperative the department kept the ethos of a good academic institution with AAPUD being showcased as an effort on an annual basis. We hope to take up an update based on each system every year. This year the effort is to provide a comprehensive review with an update in gynecological pathology. We have taken special care to bring both international and national faculty who are experts in their chosen field to bring forth the update. Also online slide seminars, poster sessions and a panel discussion apart from faculty talks will be the feature of the conference.

This year the 15th and 16th of July has been marked out for the First Amrita Annual Pathology Update (AAPUD): An Update on Pathology of Female Genital Tract. We, at the department of Pathology, humbly urge you to block the dates in your busy calendar. Amrita Institute of Medical sciences and the city of Cochin welcome you and look forward to your active participation.

Warm regards,
